Tying One On, part 3

In 2010 the first edition of my book, The Weaver’s Studio: Doubleweave, and a couple instructional videos were released by Interweave Press. In those videos I wore one of my handwoven scarves tied in a particular way that looks like a braided knot. As soon as the videos were released Interweave started getting calls and emails with questions. Were the questions about doubleweave? No - people wanted to know how I tied my scarf.

Since Convergence 2010 was coming up in Albuquerque that summer and I was going to be there teaching, Interweave asked me if I would be willing to bring my scarf with me and have them shoot a short video in which I would demonstrate how to make that tie. It was quick and fun and the first take would have been perfect had they remembered to hit the button to actually shoot the film. Fortunately, the second take went fine too.

Interweave posted the video on youtube with the title ‘Jennifer Moore Ties One On’, and it lived there for the next nine years. But with the restructuring of Interweave a couple years ago the video came down, probably never to be found again. So the other day we shot a quick video so that I can share it with you here.

I want to point out that I take no credit for this method of tying a scarf - I believe a student showed me how to do this a number of years ago. But because it showed up in my instructional videos and I often wear a scarf tied this way when I teach it has become associated with me. In fact, the year after the videos came out Prince William and Kate Middleton were planning their wedding. Someone saw a picture of Kate wearing a scarf tied in the same way and told me that Kate must have seen my video. I said that I was pretty sure that Kate had other fashion consultants than me.

At any rate, here is the video where you can learn how to tie on a scarf like this -

Cheers!
