The Green Room
I’ve been enjoying sharing my friend Sidney’s wonderful collection of objects with you over the past few months. Nearly all of what I’ve shown you has been in the main open room of her small apartment. But tucked in the back of the apartment is an extra room that she affectionately calls The Green Room. This is where she stores all of her supplies for making her beautiful journals and collages, and of course, the predominant color scheme in the room is green.
There is one cabinet with doors that holds of all of the tools - the multicolored pencils and pens, the paintbrushes, the glues, and so on that she works with.
Then there are the two stacks of little drawers - four dozen little drawers in all. Each one of them is filled with buttons, beads, ribbons, special objects, that may become part of one of her artworks at some time in the future.
Besides being a fabulous storehouse of materials to work with, each drtawer is a work of art in itself. I’m not going to show all 48 drawers, but here are examples of some of my favorites -
And then there is the one credenza with mostly green objects and books -
Besides what you can see on the surface, every little drawer and box is filled with another little universe inside. A very special one is a votive box that Sidney made for the bees. The story behind this is particularly charming and poignant. Let’s hear the story in Sidney’s own words.
I hope you’ve enjoyed sharing some of Sidney’s world, and especially her spirit and her attention to the wonders that are all around us. Maybe it will inspire you to look at things in a new way, as well as to listen to the stories that the people in your life have to share with you.
