Cabinets of Curiosities II

Last month we looked into my friend Sidney’s cabinets at the entry to her apartment - the ones in the more neutral tones of earth colors, subtle purple shades, whites and blacks. Now I’d like to continue the tour over to the wall that has a series of cabinets in turquoise blues and deep rich reds.

Every time I visit Sidney and we journey into the world of her collections I hear some old favorite stories and some new ones that I’ve never heard before. This latest time was no exception. Sidney has a quiet and gentle nature, but once you go a bit below the surface you find someone who has had a variety of very rich lives and experiences. These are Sidney’s stories to tell and she does it so beautifully.

We’ll start with the cabinet that takes her to her favorite of all environments - the beach.

From there Sidney moves over to the next cabinet, which is in similar colors.

Although all of the objects and colors are wonderful here, the best part is a story that Sidney tells about a dream and a discovery involving a Buddha -

And finally we come to my personal favorite of all her cabinets - the Red Cabinet. The richness of the colors takes me back to wandering the stalls of the carpet sellers in Morocco. I can even smell the fragrances while walking through the Spice Market in Istanbul.

But you get a special glimpse into Sidney’s past when she shares a little of a secret side from her past.

I have one last place to take you in Sidney’s world of wonders - the Green Room, which holds all the bits and pieces that become a part of her personal artworks. We’ll take a journey there in my next blog post.
