"How I Got Into Weaving"

If you don’t already know Stacey Harvey-Brown you will want to meet her next time you have the opportunity. Stacey is a British weaver who has been teaching for the past sixteen years in the UK, and now teaches from her new studio in the south of France.

As you can probably tell from the photograph, Stacey is a very fun person who is full of lots of creative energy. Besides being a master weaver, her curiosity and inventive mind have led her into exploring dimensional textiles inspired by nature and geologic forms in a variety of weave structures including doubleweave.

Whenever it might be possible and comfortable to travel again you might be tempted to visit Stacey, take a weaving class, and stay at the B&B that Stacey and her husband run. I know I am!

Just about the time that we all had to start hunkering down at home due to the pandemic Stacey started a blog post called “How I Got Into Weaving” in which she invites various textile artists to share their story. It seems that every one of us has that story and that we all like to hear about each other’s experiences. You can go to Stacey’s website and read about a number of different weavers, some of whom may be well-known to you, and some of whom you will be pleased to learn about https://theloomroomfrance.com/how-i-got-into-weaving-jennifer-moore

They contacted me and asked me to write up my story about how I got into weaving for her blog post. I find it’s actually really interesting to be of a certain age where you can look back over the history of your life thus far and see the bigger picture, how one thing has led to another and how it all has tied together.

So this will be a meta-blog post - I’m going to send you to Stacey’s website where you can read the post that I wrote for her. There is, of course, a lot more detail and interesting stories along the way that may or may not make it into future blog posts of mine. For now, enjoy reading my short story and learning more about Stacey and many other fiber artists.
