Workshops
Workshops are optimally three days in length, but can be customized to suit the needs of individual groups.
Doubleweave Diversity
Learn all about the magic of doubleweave! In this workshop participants will weave a sampler that explores weaving two independent layers of cloth, double-width cloth, tubular weaving, color-and-weave effects, pique, quilting and doubleweave pick-up. Students with 8-shaft looms will also be able to weave samples of 2-block doubleweave techniques in log cabin, checkerboard, windows and double-blocks. Graphing designs and working with multiple colors will be introduced. These techniques can then be taken home to create clothing, sculptural pieces, decorative hangings and whatever else the imagination can dream of.
Level - No prior experience in doubleweave is needed, but students must know how to warp a loom according to instructions. Students will bring a 4-shaft or 8-shaft table or floor loom warped according to instructions.
Material fee - $12 per student
Maximum - 20 students
Equipment - whiteboard or flipchart
Double Rainbow
2 layers, 4 or 8 shafts, 6 colors = Endless Possibilities
This is perhaps the ultimate color sampler! You will begin by winding a warp and setting up your loom according to Jennifer's system for working with multiple colors in a rotational sequence and bringing it to the workshop. A basic two-layered structure will enable you to mix and match your colors, creating an amazing array of color mixtures. As you weave and your warp colors move past each other you will experience a visual feast of iridescence and moire patterns. We will also experiment with single-layered structures such as warp rep and warp-faced twills and the effects that they create on this versatile warp. Those set up for two blocks on eight shafts will also be able explore an unlimited range of block combinations. This sampler will provide a remarkable education in color theory and how optical mixtures work in weaving, as well as a great source of inspiration for future weaving projects.

Doubleweave: Beyond the Basics
In this round robin workshop participants will explore what can be done within the techniques of doubleweave with multiple layers of cloth on a multi-shaft loom. We will weave samples and study the theory behind a variety of structures. Four-shaft structures include 4-color block rotation, double-block layer exchange, tubular log cabin, and overshot-patterned doubleweave. Eight-shaft structures include 4-layer weaves, double-width twill cloth, decorative stitched cloth, doubleweave checkerboards and windows, 8-shaft double-blocks, twill pickup and block pickup.
Level - Intermediate. No prior experience in doubleweave is needed, but students must know how to warp a loom according to instructions. Students will bring a 4-shaft or 8-shaft table or floor loom warped according to instructions.
Material fee - $12 per student
Maximum - 20 students

Mathemagical Design
From Fibonacci to Fractals
Have you ever wanted to work with these wonderful tools for visual design, but been scared off by a lack of drawing or math skills? This workshop is for you! We will take a visual and intuitive approach to working with symmetry movements, tiling patterns, fractals, and harmonious proportions including the golden proportion and the Fibonacci sequence. Through a series of fun exercises using drawing, coloring, rubber stamps and paper cutouts you will create a toolbox of skills to use in creating your own designs, and go home with a new way of looking at the world.
Note: This is not a loom weaving class - it is all paper-based fun exercises!
